The Mediation Institute 2006

James Stovall founded The Mediation Institute, an organization which provides mediation services and training in family, governmental, and corporate arenas, in 1992. Engaged in the full-time practice of mediation since 1988, he has assisted hundreds of families involved in transitions. Mr. Stovall's primary office is located in Oklahoma City.

Inspired by the industry growth and demand for qualified mediators, Shelly Camm and Brenda Spencer opened the Tulsa office of The Mediation Institute. The Tulsa office provides mediation services in both family and civil matters in a comfortable environment conveniently located in downtown Tulsa. In addition to a full time mediation practice, the Institute hosts monthly mediation training classes. The Mediation Institute has had the fortune of educating some of the areas most qualified mediators in family, divorce, civil and employment mediation.

GEOGRAPHIC AREA: Greater Tulsa, Tulsa County, Rogers County, Creek County, Wagoner County, Muskogee County, Washington and Osage Counties, Nationwide.

RESULTS: Approximately 85 % of all cases settle upon conclusion of the mediation. Of the remaining cases approximately half settle within approximately ten days.

AVERAGE LENGTH OF A MEDIATION SESSION: Most mediation proceedings are concluded in half a day (2-4 hours). An unusually large or complex case will typically take no more than one business day (6-8 hours) to complete.

SCHEDULING A CASE:
The Mediation Institute's Associate Directors) will do the preparation work to arrange and schedule the mediation sessions. From the beginning to end all of our cases are handled by qualified mediators only, never assistants.

The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) is the nation’s largest professional association for mediators, arbitrators, educators and other conflict resolution practitioners. Its mission is to advance the practice, research, public understanding and teaching of conflict prevention and resolution. With more than 6,500 members, ACR works in a wide range of settings throughout the United States and around the world.

James L. Stovall founded The Mediation Institute, an organization which provides mediation services and training in family, governmental, and corporate arenas, in 1992. Engaged in the full-time practice of mediation since 1988, he has assisted hundreds of families involved in transitions.

Mr. Stovall has conducted training workshops in Egypt, India, Indonesia, and 23 states in the U.S.

He has taught mediation and negotiation at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University School of Law, and the University of Central Oklahoma.

Mr. Stovall has conducted training for over 1000 individuals, including judges, attorneys, executives, as well as human resource and mental professionals.

He holds a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary, a BA from the University of Illinois, and attended Louisiana State University Law School. He is a member and past president of the Oklahoma Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators and is a Practioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

Brenda Spencer, Associate Director - Brenda has developed a career rich in child development and family relations. Brenda has invested nearly ten years in understanding and working through the family court system and has devoted her experience and skills to the promotion of mediation in family and divorce conflicts working toward resolution. Prior to this endeavor Brenda actively participated in the healthcare industry with her focus on elder and patient care issues. Brenda is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.
